The HIV Multispot is typically used as a confirmatory test for people who have received a positive result from an HIV screening. This test detects and identifies antibodies which a person's body develops in response to infection. The Multispot test has replaced the Western Blot as the HIV confirmatory test of choice. This test has a higher level of accuracy than the Western Blot and is able to detect recent HIV infections up to 7 days sooner. The Multispot test is highly sensitive and able to differentiate between HIV-1 and HIV-2.
The HIV Multispot test will be detectable for most people around 4-6 weeks after a potential exposure. In some people it may take up to 3 months to be detectable.
