What is the purpose of this test?
The Streptococcus Antibodies Profile, Serum - Mosaic Diagnostics Test Kit measures two key antibodies—DNase B (ADB) and antistreptolysin O (ASO)—that the immune system produces in response to a Group A beta-hemolytic Streptococcus (GABHS) infection. These antibodies help identify past infections that could lead to serious complications, such as rheumatic fever, glomerulonephritis (a type of kidney disease), or scarlet fever. Elevated levels of these antibodies may also indicate a lingering immune response that can impact overall health.
Recent research has linked high titers of these antibodies to Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS) and other neurological conditions, such as Tourette syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and Parkinson’s disease. In some cases, the immune response to a strep infection may mistakenly target brain tissue, leading to abnormal movements, behavioral changes, or cognitive issues. By detecting these antibodies, this test provides valuable insight into potential immune-related neurological symptoms and helps guide treatment strategies.
Who should get this test?
- Individuals with a history of recurrent strep infections.
- Children or adults experiencing sudden onset or worsening of tics, OCD, or anxiety disorders.
- Patients diagnosed with PANDAS or suspected of having an immune-related neurological disorder.
- Those with unexplained joint pain, heart inflammation, or kidney disease following a strep infection.
- People with a family history of autoimmune conditions linked to streptococcal infections.
- Anyone experiencing symptoms of rheumatic fever, Sydenham’s chorea, or post-streptococcal complications.
Benefits of the Streptococcus Antibodies Profile, Serum - Mosaic Diagnostics Test Kit:
- Identifies past strep infections – Detects DNase B and ASO antibodies to confirm previous exposure to Group A Streptococcus.
- Differentiates between infections and autoimmune responses – Helps determine whether symptoms are due to a lingering immune reaction.
- Supports diagnosis of PANDAS and related conditions – Assists in identifying immune-related neurological disorders in children and adults.
- Aids in treatment decisions – Provides information that can help healthcare providers develop targeted treatment plans.
- Monitors antibody levels over time – Helps track immune system response and recovery following a strep infection.
- Non-invasive and convenient – Requires only a simple blood sample for analysis.
- Early detection of complications – Helps prevent long-term health issues related to post-streptococcal autoimmune conditions.
