What is the purpose of this test?

The IgG Food Antibodies (87 IgG Foods + Total IgE) test helps identify sensitivities to a wide range of foods by measuring IgG antibody levels for 87 foods and total IgE. IgG antibodies are linked to delayed food reactions that might cause symptoms like bloating, headaches, and digestive discomfort. Unlike immediate allergic reactions, which are triggered by IgE antibodies, IgG-mediated reactions can take hours or even days to show up. This test allows individuals to pinpoint specific foods that may be causing their delayed symptoms, providing a clearer path for managing their health.

In addition to identifying food sensitivities, this test also measures total IgE levels, which can indicate true IgE-mediated food allergies. By measuring both IgG and IgE, the test helps distinguish between sensitivities and more severe allergies. It can also provide insight into non-immune responses, such as food intolerances. The results of the test are used to create a personalized Elimination Diet plan, helping individuals avoid triggering foods and improve their overall health.

Test Code(s):

GD1001

Also Known As:

IgG Food Antibodies; IgG Food Antibodies Assessment

Preparation:

Ship collection kits Monday through Friday only. No fasting is required. For food antibodies testing, it is suggested that the patient eat a variety of foods for 2-3 weeks before testing (except for foods known to cause severe reactions). Doing so will help to ensure the presence of antibodies to problematic foods. Antibodies to a particular food may be ABSENT if the food was not consumed recently. Certain medications may influence antibody testing: Glucocorticoids, chemotherapy, other immunosuppressive agents, NSAIDS, anticonvulsants, Omalizumab, and Heparin. If possible, take medications or supplements after collection. Check with your physician before stopping medications.

Test Results:

14 business days once the lab receives the specimen. May take longer based on weather, holiday, or lab delays.
