What is the purpose of this test?
The Cellular Nutrition Assay (CNA) & MethyDetox Profile, Add-On Test - ALCAT Test Kit is an additional test that can be added to the following ALCAT Test Panel components:
- Platinum Plus
- Platinum Comprehensive
- Comprehensive Wellness #1
- Comprehensive Wellness #2
- Comprehensive Wellness #3
The Cellular Nutrition Assay (CNA) is designed to evaluate cellular reactions to different substances such as foods, additives, colorings, chemicals, and other environmental triggers. It aims to identify which substances may be causing adverse reactions at the cellular level. The CNA test typically involves exposing a patient's white blood cells to a panel of various substances. The cells' reaction to these substances is then measured, often through changes in cell size, volume, and number. Substances that provoke adverse reactions are identified as potential triggers for inflammation or immune responses. The CNA test is often used in functional medicine and integrative health practices to help identify food sensitivities, intolerances, and potential triggers for various chronic health conditions. It can guide personalized dietary and lifestyle interventions to alleviate symptoms and improve overall health.
The MethyDetox Profile is a diagnostic test aimed at assessing the body's ability to effectively detoxify and metabolize certain substances, particularly those related to methylation processes. Methylation is a crucial biochemical process involved in various bodily functions, including detoxification, neurotransmitter synthesis, DNA repair, and hormone regulation. The MethyDetox Profile typically involves analyzing genetic markers and biochemical indicators related to methylation pathways, such as the activity of enzymes like MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) and COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase), as well as levels of certain metabolites like homocysteine and methylmalonic acid. This test provides insights into an individual's methylation status and detoxification capacity, which can be crucial for understanding susceptibility to certain health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders, mood disorders, and cancer. By identifying potential methylation imbalances, healthcare providers can tailor interventions such as targeted nutritional support, lifestyle modifications, and supplementation to optimize methylation pathways and support overall health.

MethyDetox Profile biomarkers:
Benefits of the Cellular Nutrition Assay (CNA) & MethyDetox Profile:
- Personalized approach to health: Both tests provide personalized insights into an individual's unique biochemistry, allowing healthcare providers to tailor interventions based on specific dietary and lifestyle factors that may be affecting cellular health and metabolism.
- Identification of food sensitivities and intolerances: The CNA test can help identify potential triggers for adverse reactions at the cellular level, including food sensitivities and intolerances. This information is valuable for developing personalized dietary plans aimed at reducing inflammation, improving digestion, and alleviating symptoms such as bloating, headaches, and fatigue.
- Optimization of dietary choices: By identifying foods that may be causing cellular reactions, the CNA test enables individuals to make more informed dietary choices, optimizing their nutrition and potentially enhancing overall health and well-being.
- Insights into detoxification capacity: The MethyDetox Profile provides insights into an individual's ability to effectively detoxify and metabolize substances, particularly those related to methylation processes. Understanding one's detoxification capacity can be crucial for addressing underlying factors contributing to chronic health conditions and optimizing detoxification pathways.
- Prevention and management of chronic conditions: Both tests can help identify underlying factors contributing to chronic health conditions such as inflammation, autoimmune disorders, mood disorders, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic disorders. By addressing these factors through targeted interventions, individuals may experience improvements in symptoms and a reduced risk of developing future health problems.
- Support for integrative and functional medicine approaches: Alcat's CNA and MethyDetox Profile are aligned with the principles of integrative and functional medicine, which emphasize a holistic approach to health and focus on addressing underlying root causes of illness rather than just managing symptoms. These tests provide valuable insights that can guide personalized treatment plans aimed at optimizing health and wellness.
Preparation:
No fasting is required. Avoid antibiotics and antihistamines for 5 days, oral steroids for 7 days, and topical steroids for 24 hours prior to collection. Patients should refrain from taking any medications or supplements for 3-4 hours before their blood draw. Check with your physician before stopping any medications.
Test Results:
7-10 days once specimen is received at lab. May take longer based on weather, holiday, or lab delays.
