The Cardio IQ insulin resistance (IR) panel is an integral tool to assess IR and to determine if a person is at risk for prediabetes or diabetes. A person can have normal glucose and Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), but cells may be fighting with the glucose load, which will lead to IR and eventually prediabetes and diabetes. Insulin resistance can be difficult to diagnose due to its being a gradual increase. IR is often associated with polycystic ovary syndrome, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and cardiovascular disease.
Those who may benefit from IR testing even when risk factors may not be evident, can include:
Individuals with symptoms that can be linked to IR including:
- Family history of diabetes and/or history of gestational diabetes mellitus
- Hypertension
- Overweight/Obese
- Patients with normal glucose and Hemoglobin A1c
